A Decision For The Future: The 2009 Copenhagen Meeting.
The Kyoto Protocol signed in 1997 by thirty-seven industrialized countries and that entered into force on 16 February 2005, is about to expire. That’s why the international global warming meeting celebrated from the 7 to the 18 of December on the Danish city of Copenhagen is so important. This meeting is going to be the possible agreement for a new treatise about the common measures to stop the climate change.
This week the European Union environmental ministers are working on the different proposals that are going to be place on the meeting. The leader of the Swedish environmental minister, Andreas Carlgren said, “we should set a schedule and the norms to establish a legal and regulatory law that could related all the countries”. During this meeting there will be different expositors like Stavros Dimas the Environmental Commissioner of the EU, who would show the actual level of the gas emissions that provoke the greenhouse effect.
There are many points in this deal, but one that draw the attention of everyone is the reduction between the twenty and fifty percent of emission by the industrialized countries for 2020. On the other hand they expected the reduction between eighty and ninety percent by 2050.
But this meeting has faced some problems like the accusation of some sub-developed countries about being a protocol that is going to stop their development. However, an important notice is the incursion of USA and China in this new protocol. Everybody hopes that the Copenhagen Meeting could bring favorable measures for the environment and for the world where everybody lives in.
